Record funding for digital health applications in the US

San-Francisco based Rock Health released yesterday its 2012 Midyear Digital Health Funding Report announcing 73% more investments in medical applications in comparison with the same corresponding period of last year. These investments focussed on physician tools, sensors, home health and data.

Investments in digital health applications topped $ 675 million by the end of May 2012, in comparison to $ $ 390 million invested from January to May 2011. The majority of these deals, 40 of  68 deals, representing $ 405 million, concentrated on the B2B sector. The largest investments were attracted by Castlight ($ 100 million), GoHealth ($50 million), Kinnser ($40 million) and Airstrip ($39 million).

92 VC firms invested in digital health in 2012. California attracted 33% of the investments, followed by Texas (15%) and Illinois (13%).
